De biografie van Geertruida Kapteyn-Muysken

Maite Karssenberg

As a student, Maite Karssenberg discovered the diaries of Geertruida Kapteyn-Muysken (1855-1920) and they never left her. The result: a playful literary biography about a woman who broke free from the traditional mold of women's lives, who, despite setbacks, led a rich and committed life and was an inspiration to many. Through her eyes, a whole new picture of our country's first emancipation struggle emerges, with themes that continue to make one and a half centuries later.

Maite Karssenberg is a writer and historian. In 2018, she published Cutting Point Isfahan, about the extraordinary trip to Iran she made with her father and the appeal of Iranian mosaic art. The book was translated into Persian. She also writes for various magazines. Her new book, a literary biography of the 19th-century freethinker Geertruida Kapteyn-Muysken, reflects years of fascination and in-depth research.
