Finn Borath received a grant to develop a new performance in collaboration with Boris de Klerk. Finn and Boris create a new world with the technology at the service of the theater, as a metaphor for our own. Slowly, the hall lights, moving heads and hazer appear to have a voice of their own. In images, it evokes associations with visual art, object theater and with the advance of smart devices that surround us. Music and sound links all those images and meanings together. In addition to a whole new world, a dramatic composition, an opera of things, emerges from those voices.
Boris and Finn have been creating performances together since 2019, including Entrissen Sind Wir dem Tageslicht, Wo bist du, Licht? and Black Box: First Movement. Their collaboration focuses on the senses of the audience and theater as a construct that plays on those senses. From different angles (light, sound, music, video) they try to play the theater and are always looking for surreal ways to rearrange the senses. By approaching theater and the theater technology within it not as something for “behind the scenes” but as subject matter and material, they come up with innovative ways of thinking about theater. Couldn't a lamp become the soundtrack of a performance and what would it be like if all the lights turned on and off to the tapping of the rain?
