De Dag Dat We Afspraken Dat Jij Bestaat
Theater collective De Garde received a grant to develop De Dag Dat We Afspraken Dat Jij Bestaat. The performance is a theatrical adaptation of the book Lieutenant Kije, written by Yuri Tynyanov. A musical performance about the serious and almost unimaginable consequences of a culture of fear and silence. The performance uses the fictional story of Lieutenant Kije as a capstone to expose contemporary poisoned power structures.
De Garde consists of Pleun de Roode, Julia van der Vlugt and Danny Westerweel. Following in the footsteps of the Swiss and Praetorian Garde, they don their own uniform to defend the Dutch theatrical landscape by pen and sword to the theatrical death. De Garde does this by scrambling unknown classics and giving them a contemporary twist. Almost forgotten stories from world literature regain their right to exist and often turn out to be more topical than ever. In musical performances interspersed with tragicomic characters, De Garde shows that fiction and reality are closer together than you might think.
