ASHES TO ASHES

QiQi van Boheemen

QiQi van Boheemen received a grant to create the theater performance ASHES TO ASHES with Noah Janssen, David Roos and Anne van der Vegt. This performance focuses on bodies that show decay, with the viewer's gaze playing a central role. It explores the extent to which the image of a healthy body influences the concept of humanity. By reducing a human being to dust in one hour, the possibility of dehumanization in our perception is explored. When is a body still seen as human and when does that stop? ASHES TO ASHES invites us to continue searching through the confrontation with decay for that which makes us human.

QiQi, Noah, David and Anne met at the Toneelacademie Maastricht. There, in 2022, they created their first play, Patria Papa: a raw and comical performance about a murderous pope, an opera singer and an overzealous policeman. Together they came up with a theatrical world all their own, merging violent scenes, slapstick and references to popular (film) culture. ASHES TO ASHES will be their second collaboration. In this, in a world where human values are under pressure, all four feel the need to talk about humanity.
