Seriously Carefree

Keith Wong

Jazz vocalist Keith Wong received a grant to develop new music. Seeing how often his colleagues suffer depression and burnout, Keith is motivated to launch a new vocal project titled Seriously Carefree. Inspired by oxymorons - words that juxtapose contradictory meanings - Keith collaborated with jazz pianist Tin Chi Siu to compose new songs for his a cappella group, aiming to bring lightness to the heavy hearts of those weighed down by life's trials.

Keith discovered his passion for music in Hong Kong, where he was born and raised. Graduating from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in 2022, he brings a diverse cultural background to his music, which he enriches with his choral and theatre experiences. Known in the music industry for his creative writing, he won the Best Original Music of the Year at A Cappella China's Beehive Music Award 2022. To boost his artistic pursuits, he received support from both the Sena Performers Music Production Funds in the Netherlands and the Hong Kong Art Development Council 2023, which enabled the creation of his debut Intertwined. Outside the jazz scene, Keith was a resident artist with Hong Kong's award-winning a cappella theatre company Yat Po Singers from 2012 to 2018. His versatility extends to arranging music for their productions and collaborating with esteemed groups such as the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
