Sanzienele

Anita Petruescu received a grant to develop her new EP. Sanzienele is a modern jazz and dance project that mixes historical and contemporary elements and draws inspiration from Romanian folklore, particularly the fairy tale and ritual of Sanziene. Through this lens, the underlying story focuses on contemporary social issues, particularly the role and identity of women, using a mix of semi-improvised music, Romanian and English spoken word and dance to create an emotionally resonant statement and dynamic narrative.

Anita is an artist whose music aims to convey clear messages. She is an award-winning, Romanian singer and composer living in the Netherlands. With her music, she wants to develop her own artistic identity by connecting different musical genres. She loves elaborate melodies and quickly switches between high and low notes, constantly exploring the possibilities of her voice. Her vocal sound is raw, powerful, but also delicate and empathetic.
