Henn
Henn is the self-titled solo album by the Australian-born, Amsterdam-based artist Harry Tinney. After releasing several instrumental records as a guitarist, composer and bandleader, this music marks the beginning of his work as a singer-songwriter. Before moving to Amsterdam in 2023, Harry established himself as an improvising musician in Melbourne, Australia. Since his debut release Kingsnake in 2019, Harry worked diligently to forge connections within the Australian improvised music scene, recording and touring with various groups around the country. He was a finalist (one of five in Australia) in the national jazz awards at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival in 2022. As a bandleader he followed up his debut instrumental record with two more releases. The first; ORACLES with power-trio WASTELANDS, and the second Organix with a hammond-organ combo. After relocating to Europe later in the year, he began working on his singer-songwriter project Henn.
Australian singer-songwriter Henn’s music combines storytelling flair with the candid nature of a conversation between close friends. Inspired by the timeless lyricism of Randy Newman and Joni Mitchell, Henn writes songs that are lived-in and yet never predictable. His lyrics inhabit a liminal space between fictional worlds and confessional details. Taking the birth name of his grandfather, a refugee from Estonia during the Soviet occupation, Henn marks a return to his musical and personal roots. While stuck at home during the lockdowns, he picked up pen and paper and what began as a distraction quickly became an obsession. After this period of isolation ended he began performing his songs for audiences around Australia. This journey took him halfway across the world to Amsterdam, where he has begun work on his debut album.
