Die Anstalt

Joël Botma received a grant to record an album with his jazz quintet called Die Anstalt. The band distinguishes itself by combining jazz influences with contemporary genres such as drum & bass, hip-hop and pop music. Their aim is to use their music to breathe new life into the jazz genre and make it accessible to a wider audience.

Joël is a trumpet player from Arnhem. A solo trumpet player with the Royal Air Force Orchestra since 2020, he has been active as a freelance trumpeter in the Dutch jazz and pop scene for many years. His interest in many different musical styles makes Joël very all-round as a musician. Besides playing trumpet, Joël is involved in making electronic music.
