Ons gaan allemaal

Benzokarim

Benzokarim received funding to write Ons gaan allemaal, his second poetry collection, inspired by Erwin Schrödinger's thought experiment known as "Schrödinger's cat." This experiment describes an imaginary cat that exists in both a living and a dead state. In this collection, Benzokarim places himself in the position of Schrödinger's cat, exploring past, present, and future from this dual perspective. He shifts focus between themes such as grief, solitude, and loyalty, with the loss of his mother playing a significant role. Her passing brought a sense that a part of him went with her, and Schrödinger's thought experiment offered a way to conceptualize this state.

Benzokarim is a poet, spoken word artist, and writer. His work is characterized by musicality, rhythm, and dynamism, where emotions are authentically expressed. He finds balance between spoken and written word, viewing writing as both an activist and poetic expression. In 2022, he participated in the Dutch Foundation for Literature’s Slow Writing Lab and won the El Hizjra Literature Prize (Poetry). He is also active as a coach at Poetry Circle and as an editor at Mensen Zeggen Dingen. He has performed at various events and venues, including Lowlands, Crossing Border, Read My World, Poetry International, Opera Forward Festival, and the Boekenbal. On November 18, 2022, he published his poetry collection El Ghorba, centered on conversations with his father and a tribute to his mother.
