what I saw, what I remember
Meshkat Talebi received a grant to develop new work. Through sound, images and writing, this project explores the impact of immigration on memory and identity. She explores parallels between this experience and totalitarian attempts to erase collective memory and how stories can act as a resistance tool in confronting forgetting and preserving stories for future generations.
Meshkat is an Iranian visual artist, currently based in the Netherlands. She works mainly with photography and moving image and is increasingly interested in audiovisual environments as spaces to collectively explore socio-political issues. She is interested in creating generative conditions for an audience to think critically, but also to personally connect with broad socio-political issues with deep personal impact.
