MONOMAAN

Reinier van Harten

Reinier van Harten received a grant to develop a new album. MONOMAAN is a quirky pop record about an intense event in the life of pop musician Reinier van Harten: in 2021 he was suddenly told that there was a large tumor in his head. After a long period of illness, REINDIER wanted to make a record that breaks through society's shame about illness and loneliness. The songs on the record are melancholic, uplifting and full of humor, taking the audience into an imaginative world that evokes comparisons to Kate Bush, Sufjan Stevens and David Bowie. The album will emerge in two different manifestations: as a musical theater performance Metgezwel.

Reinier creates performances at the intersection of music, theater and technology. On stage, he immerses the audience in melancholic vocals, experimental instruments, mesmerizing images and confrontational lyrics that are both timeless and modern. The contrasts in his work are also reflected in his chosen name: 'REIN' means pure, clean and virgin, while 'ANIMAL' stands for emotion, intuition and instinct.
