All the wonder and the Ahhhh

Luca Tichelman received a grant to develop new work. In the video work All the wonder and the Ahhhh, we see a group of circus performers searching for that one unique and perfect circus act. Gradually, they realise that true creation, surprise and the unexpected lies not in endless discussions, but in embracing their fantasy worlds and the opportunities hidden in them to meet each other. Sets are constructed as paper toy theatres in which digitally recorded actors come to life. This tinkered world integrates realism and fantasy, forming a new exploration of how Luca unites theatre and video in her work.

Luca is a multidisciplinary artist who focuses mainly on video, alongside photography and small moving sculptures. She is interested in the need to affirm our existence. The fusion of theatre and video plays a central role, combining the theatricality and self-awareness inherent in stage performances with the intimacy and visual potential of video. By creating staged environments in which characters play a collection of different roles, she explores the innate human desire for a sense of belonging and the key role of identity in fulfilling this need.
