Regen voor de Zon

Ferhat Kaplan

Ferhat Kaplan received funding to develop Regen voor de Zon: an intimate and multi-layered feature film about a Turkish-Dutch family struggling with family dynamics, cultural clashes, and personal hardships in 2003. Based on autobiographical elements, the story follows young Ferhat, who sacrifices his childhood to shoulder the burdens of his overworked mother and criminal father. The film offers a unique perspective on the second generation of guest workers and the impact of their quiet sacrifices. Blending humor and drama, Regen voor de Zon explores the complex yet loving bonds between family members and shows how identity and resilience take shape in two worlds.

Ferhat was born and raised in Bergen op Zoom. He studied commercial economics and marketing sciences. Working as a marketing professional in an office made him realize that passion was missing from his life, leading him to change course in 2022 and dedicate himself to acting. Since then, he has fully committed to his acting career. In recent years, he has performed with various theater companies, including Wunderbaum and Theater Rast. In 2023, he created the solo performance Kind van het Licht as part of the emerging makers program at SADETTIN K. In 2024, he debuted his play Bergen Verzetten at the Oerol Festival, which received praise from both audiences and critics. Beyond theater, Ferhat is also active in the film industry, appearing in films such as Laat Me Binnen, NL-Alert, and Fabula.
