Mijn zus is een robot

Wim Amels

Wim Amels received a grant to produce Mijn zus is een robot. In this documentary, he follows his sister as she struggles to overcome her addiction to highly addictive sleep medication. What is addiction, really? It is a sign, a signal, a symptom of someone’s suffering — a language that reveals a distressing condition that needs to be understood. While Wim tries to be a source of support, their relationship clashes with past traumas and mutual misunderstandings, teaching him what it truly means to be there for someone.

Wim studied political science and later attended the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts. His passion for telling other people’s stories led him to the Amsterdam Filmschool, where he trained as a documentary filmmaker. He has a deep interest in underdogs who shape their lives against the odds. He has worked for VPRO and, as a videographer, has created work for Michelle van Tongerloo, among others. Additionally, he is currently producing a documentary on professional football players and vulnerability. Mijn zus is een robot will be his first feature-length documentary.
