Open Call – Melly x Amarte

Kunstinstituut Melly and the Amarte Foundation resume their collaboration for LIVE 2023 on Saturday 4 March 2023 at Kunstinstituut Melly. If you are a musician or sound artist interested in performing during LIVE 2023, please read the following notes and then complete this simple online application. The application deadline is Friday 27 January 2023.

What can you expect?

During LIVE 2023 you have the possibity to perform in one of Melly’s art exhibition. We are looking for artist that want to be inspired by one of the artworks that are on display, and want to give a concert that resonates with the artwork.

  • One-person concerts or group/band performances are eligible to apply.
  • For performing, selected applicants receive a fee of 300 Euros (per musician/artist, includes 9% VAT); production support for the performance; promotion of the event.
  • The evening will be recorded, and an after-movie will be published, please click here to see the video of 2022.

Artists interested in performing should take into consideration the parameters of working in a visual arts gallery. The exhibition spaces are not a fitted musical venue:

  • In the exhibition spaces a small set-up with no or minimal amplification is preferred;
  • Performers and performances will co-exist with art and audiences;
  • Some sound leakage will likely happen with simultaneous concerts taking place within the building.
  • It is envisioned that audiences may be both sitting-in as much as coming in-and-out of the performances and exhibitions, flowing with the different rhythms and installations staged that night.

Applications will be reviewed by an expert panel convened by Amarte, and the short-listed applicants will be interviewed by Kunstinstituut Melly, who makes the final decision and program. Selected participants will be informed by Monday 13 February 2023.
