STARRYTELLING (UNEXPLAINED)
Johan Delétan received a contribution to develop the video installation STARRYTELLING (UNEXPLAINED) in collaboration with Noé Cottencin. The installation consists of a narrative short film and an immersive environment. A group of friends defend their flat, which they see as a medieval castle in the darkness, against the intrusion of an inexplicable force that sets absurd events in motion. In this fantasy world, the heroes must transform into acclaimed stars - beings with extraordinary energetic powers - to combat the threat. However, it soon becomes clear that the myth of the individual hero cannot succeed; only by forming constellations of beings can meaning and fulfilment be achieved amid the chaos of existence.
Johan is a visual artist and writer whose work spans across film, digital and photography. Most of his output revolves around the matter of the consciousness, be it found within the flesh or within the extended digital self. He creates images whereby bodily gesture and the deconstruction of cinematic language act as a catalyst to probe under the surface of individual identities. He holds a Master’s degree in Fine Art and Design from the moving image department ‘Resolution’ at the Sandberg Instituut.
Noé is a visual artist whose practice stretches across film, drawing and performance. Focusing on the notion of group and community, he creates narratives where humour and derision is used as a tool to shift our contemporary perspective and bring out the hidden magical aspect of everyday life. He holds a Bachelor of Moving image from the Rietveld Academy and a Master of Moving Image from the Sandberg Instituut. In 2023, he was a resident at SoundImageCulture, and in High Desert Test Sites.
