Print Maker's Friend
Omar Martha received a grant to develop new work. As part of his practice, he uses many analog and historical photographic processes. These processes give him not only a tangible relationship to his work but also depth that results in a series of unique works. However, some of these processes are environmentally polluting and dangerous to human health. Therefore, with the support of Amarte, he plans to attend a workshop to learn how to work with a new, sustainable printing technique. In doing so, he will take a step toward changing his work process and can contribute to creating wider support for this printing technique and help develop a safer and more responsible photographic process.
Omar is a photographer from Curaçao. After completing an education in communication and multimedia design, he has spent the past few years mastering modern digital photography himself, as well as a new fascination with alternative and historical photographic processes as a way to materialize his photographic vision. Although most of his works are analog and handmade, his process does not follow a dogmatic analog route, but combines all the photographic tools available to a photographer and printer in the 21st century. Through these processes, he is able to translate his often personal and intimate subjects into photographic objects that, by the nature of his method and personal attention, are unique both in tangibility and insight into the photographer's mind. In addition to his personal work, Martha is general manager at art education institute Instituto Buena Bista.
