Élan Vital

Katarina Head received a contribution for her new project Élan Vital. Using a working method based on free association and intuitive painting, embracing the very act of growth and creation of nature itself, Élan Vital aims to offer a fundamental outlook towards an ecological relation to our world. By emphasising the biodiversity of life on this planet, Katarina attempts to make the viewer aware of our shared ecosystem amongst an abundance of other living organisms.

Katarina is a British-Estonian artist currently living and working in Den Haag. Her works revolve around the exploration of amorphic landscapes which delve into themes of figuration, phantasmagoria, the interconnectedness of nature and the relations within our bizarre yet beautiful existence. Through the use of collage and painting the mediums begin to morph, merge and separate into one another leaving the wandering of our associative minds at an open end.
