Dollhouse

Olga Micinska

Olga Micinska received a grant to develop new work. Through her daily practice as a woodworker and when inviting apprentices to join the process, Olga has come to the conclusion that the ability to build should be regarded as a form of resistance. This resistance allows for the preservation of autonomy, the means of self-establishment, and the possibility to engage in communal endeavors—especially in the context of an increasingly alienating techno-economy, where the right to housing is neglected by most authorities. With the aim of making this reflection accessible, she envisions raising a dollhouse that not only serves as a para-educational construction model but also embodies a radical fantasy of what a dwelling can be.

Olga is a Polish artist currently based in Amsterdam. Woodworking is central to Olga’s practice as a sculptor, builder, and critical thinker. Over the past years, it has functioned as a lens through which she explores themes of labor and technology, and as a means to build relationships—with people, the environment, and economic realities. For Olga, woodworking is a channel of world-making on her own scale. It takes her to new places while keeping her grounded.
