De Watertoren

Lucas Sloot

Lucas Sloot received a contribution to develop, together with Chantal van Lieshout, Hannah van der Schaaf and Judith Reijnders, the project De Watertoren. A project that responds to the alternation of excess and shortage of water. There are a number of beautiful and typical areas in Drenthe. The fens and sandy plains are home to many species of animals and plants and contain a rich history of their origins, but these areas are under pressure. Extreme droughts and wet periods are becoming more intense, and this climate change is also affecting the Drenthe ecosystem.

Lucas Sloot, Chantal van Lieshout, Hannah van der Schaaf and Judith Reijnders are four artists from the Arnhem/Nijmegen region. From different backgrounds, they find interfaces such as nature, climate and public space within their art practices. With great admiration they look at the world and express this through a variety of materials. In both small and large works with often a large role for the spectator. The latter becomes part of the whole as an active participant. In this together you will find a critical undertone that questions the relationship between man and environment.
