Cloning Joshi

Maartje van Ringen received a development grant for Cloning Joshi, her project on pet cloning. She wants to delve into developing a concrete plan for a story and form about pet cloning, through photography, scientific research and sound, among other things. With the development grant, Maartje will discuss philosophical and scientific perspectives with an animal ethicist to determine the angle of her story.

Maartje is a photographer and researcher. She believes that our interaction with animals provides insight into the state of humans. Through extensive research into psychological, ethical, scientific and cultural perspectives, she questions the conflicting relationship between humans and animals. She explores the extent to which humans can and may control, capitalise and conserve the animal.
